    7 Weird/Random Things Meme

Tagged by Donna.  I think she's hinting at me since I haven't posted for almost 3 months....

    Here are the rules:
    1. Link to the person that tagged you and post the rules on your blog.
    2. Share 7 random and/or weird things about yourself.
    3. Tag 7 random people at the end of your post and include links to their blogs.
    4. Let each person know that they have been tagged by leaving a comment on their blog.

    1.  It is my belief that the universe must be in balance.  And to do my part, if I turn around one way (say, clockwise), I feel that I must turn around the other way (counterclockwise, duh) in order to keep the universe in balance.  Of course I don't make it so obvious.  It's done discreetly.  Nobody knows but me.  (Not anymore).

    2.  I have this need to count things.  Like if I'm stopped at a traffic light and the car in front of me is a newer model, where the brake lights are made up of individual looking small bulbs - I'll try to count them all before his brake lights go off.  And if there's still time, I'll count them a second time to confirm my first count.  Or if I see a chandelier, I'll count the number of lights on it.  Is that a sign of OCD...

    3.  I am not musically inclined.  I can't even carry a tune.  Perhaps that's why I'm so awestruck with music - it's something so difficult for me that I'm just amazed with it.  I used to buy Circus magazine, look at the rock stars concert pictures and dream of being like Eddie Van Halen or Keith Richards (I said being like, not looking like).  Oh those private air guitar sessions I used to have in my younger days...

    4.  Born to shop.  I love a good bargin.  Unlike most men, I won't pay $2 for a $1 item that I need, although I will pay $1 for a $2 item that I don't need.  And a lot of times, in order to find the good deals, you have to be in the right place at the right time, and the only way to do that is to go bargin hunting.  Many times I do come home empty handed.  Was it a waste of time?  Of course not!  You heard the saying "...that's why it's called fishing, and not catching"?  I say "...that's why it's called shopping, and not buying".

    5.  Family is important to me.  Maybe just a trait of me being a Moon Child.  But it's something that I embrace and makes me feel whole.  I grew up in a house, not a home.  I didn't know any better until I got older and realized that there's something different about my family.  It should've dawned on me when my dad called a family meeting one night and said that they might get divorced.  I was about 5 years old.  After the family meeting, I asked my dad "what's a divorce?".  After he explained it to me, I was crushed.  Once when my mom went to a convention on the mainland, I thought she wasn't coming back.  I cried in secret.  But being the youngest, they "stayed together" until I was 18 years old.  By "staying together", I mean they never talked to each other, each did their own thing, and lived this charade for most of my childhood.  In my pre-teens, I noticed something about my family was different.  It was broken.  It left a void.  A void that I was able to fill after I got married and was fortunate enough to be taken in by my in-laws.  And especially, by the family that my wife and I grew together and continue to nourish.

    6.  For 15 years, I celebrated my birthday on the wrong day.  We always celebrated my birthday on July 20th - as I was told was my birthday.  Then when I turned 15 years old and went to get my drivers permit, the cleck told me that I had written down the wrong date on my application.  I told her no, that my birthday is on July 20th.  She pointed to my birth certificate (which I'd never seen before) and showed me where it states that I was born on July 21st.

    7.  I'm supposed to be working right now, but since Donna tagged me, I felt the need to comply and post.  Well, that plus I don't feel like working too hard today :^p

    Friday 5
    1. What were the circumstances surrounding your last all-nighter?
That would be our last Las Vegas trip.  Bag pull is at 4:00 AM.  Meet at the gathering area at 5:00 AM.  Plane leaves for home at 8:00 AM.  So it's - stay up all night and gamble.  Then sleep on the plane ride all the way back home.
    2. What your favorite stay-awake-and-alert food or drink?
Coffee first.  Soda second.  Food makes me sleep.
    3. What are you most likely to be doing when you’re up in the late, late hours of the night?
Messin' on the computer or watching some show.
    4. In what way does your personality change when you are sleep-deprived?
I become bitchy.  Boy, do I become bitchy.  Bitch, bitch, bitch.  It's not a pretty sight.
    5. If you get home extremely tired and extremely hungry, which need are you most likely to satisfy first?
If I could only choose one, I'd take sleep.  Hunger pains aren't felt when I'm sleeping.  Ideally, I'd like to eat big, then sleep.  I know it's not good for you to do that, but every once in awhile, it's alright.  In moderation, right?
That was so much fun, I'm going to do last weeks too:
    1. What were your after-school hours usually like when you were in high school?
Worked.  I worked every day after school, from about 3:00 to 6:00.  Then all day on Saturday too.  Doing what, you ask?  A frickin' "lot-boy" at a car dealership.  Boy, did I despise that job, yet I stayed at it for 5 years.  All through high school and into college.  Sometimes I wish that I should've gotten into some after school activities instead of just working.  Maybe joining the bowling team.  Oh well, too late now.
At least I'm not still a frickin' lot-boy.
    2. What are the first moments like when you finally get home after a long day?
See two dogs waiting at the door to greet me.  Lexi, a silky terrier usually has a stuffed animal in her mouth for me.  If she doesn't, I ask her "where's my toy?"  and she goes running through the house looking for something to pick up and bring me.  Usually it's a stuffed animal.  Sometimes a chew bone.  Other times, a used sock.  Whatever she can find the fastest.
Then I loaf in front of the TV for a bit and watch the news before "bocha"ing.
    3. Where do your thoughts normally turn after the December/January holidays have passed?
Looking forward to taking my wife to Vegas to celebrate her birthday.  We just love the cold weather and try to go every January.
    4. When did you last allow someone to cut in front of you in line?
I dunno.  Maybe when we were at Pasta & Basta Italian restaurant and while deciding what to order, let the people next to us go ahead and order before us.  Pasta & Basta at Restaurant Row is awesome.  Excellent Italian dishes at very reasonable prices - because you walk up to the counter, order your food and wait until your number is called.  Then pick up your dish and take it to a table yourself.  No linen tableclothes, no lit candle on the table (although you could bring one yourself), not even booze (no liquior license yet).  But you're welcome to BYOB and they'll supply wine glasses for you.  Nothing fancy, just straight up, damn good Italian food at reasonable prices.
    5. What are you going to do right after you finish answering these questions?
Shut down my computer and go home from work.

    Bye!

    Long Time No See

Been busy with a  big project at work that was finally implemented.  Okay, lazy too.

    Friday5.org time:
    1. What’s overdue for a good cleaning?
Our storeroom at home.  Talk about clutter.  I don't know where all that crap comes from.  It's so true that the more space you have, the more crap you collect - at least in our house it's true.
    2. What’s overdue for some kind of professional examination, service, maintenance, or upkeep?
My body.  Haven't been to the doc in a couple of years.  Cronic sinus problems since the end of last year.  Sometimes I can taste, sometimes I can't.  So when's my next scheduled appointment?  Don't have one...
    3. Who’s overdue for a phone call or letter to you?
Hmmm...  No one really.  OTOH, I wonder who I'm overdue to for a phone call or letter.
    4. What’s overdue for an appearance in your neighborhood?
COPS!  Frickin' burglar was in our house the other week.  Good thing my daughter was home and chased that bitch out before anything was taken.  She might've got my gun - a pellet gun.  I hope she pulls it out in front of a cop and the cop shoots her ass dead.
    5. Who’s overdue for a good comeuppance?
My two colleagues at work for sleeping at their desk!  People walking by come up to me and ask WTF?  All I can do is shake my head.  It's one of those situations where I want to alert my boss because it's a poor reflection on him - not being on top of his people, but then again I don't want to be labeled as a tattletale.

Have a good weekend.  Stay dry!

    Yet Another Milestone

My baby has graduated from high school.  McKinley held their 2007 graduation on the first Sunday in June as they always do.  The graduates finally got to walk across "the oval", leaving behind their beloved high school, only to start a new chapter in their lives.
And as proud parents, we can't help but breathe a sigh of relief.  I mean there was no doubt that our baby would graduate.  In fact, she graduated Cum Laude.  But just to get this far in life nowadays is an accomplishment for the child as much as it is for the parents.  It's a milestone to mark on our path of life.

So congratulations to the Class of '07.
And to the parents of the Class of '07.

    Friday 5 - late again...

    1. We’re buying you a lifetime subscription to any magazine or periodical journal you want!  What’ll it be?
Consumer Reports.  Before I buy something, I like to research which ones are good buys and which ones are junk.  Consumer Reports provides that information for me.  Altho I do factor in other elements when making my final decision, ie. environment, past experience, costs.
    2. We’re buying you any existing non-chain, one-location-only store and giving you an expert lifetime manager, so that all you have to do is make decisions and watch them succeed or fail!  What will be the store, and what will be your first change?
A store named Cosplay & Anime.  It'd be a speciality store that carrys Anime movies, books, and anything anime related.  But it'll also carry costumes that my daughter will create from scratch.  She'll also make custom-fit costumes upon request.  There'd be a cosplay person at the door to greet customers coming in.  My first change would be to create a stage area inside the store for cosplayers to gather and pose for pictures.  Maybe every other month or so, there'd be a costume contest with a different theme each time.  Prizes from the store would be given away to the best costumes.  The store would be a place tor anime lovers to meet and hang out.
    3. We’re buying you any house within a one-mile radius of your own!  Which one do you want, and why?
The one at the corner of Ekekela and Liliha.  It has shoji doors that opens to a porch overlooking a Japanese landscaped garden with a fishpond and matsu trees.  It's enclosed with a Japanese wooden fence sitting on top of a moss rock wall.  A little slice of Japan located in cool Nuuanu.
    4. We’re hiring someone to take care of any ONE specific household chore (except cooking) for the rest of your life!  Which chore will he or she attend to?
Laundry, especailly ironing.  I purposely avoid buying anything that needs ironing.  If I can get away with it, I'll hang up my clothes directly out from the dryer to keep them from wrinkling and needing to be ironed.  Maybe if I had one of those presses like the dry cleaners have, I wouldn't mind ironing, but I don't have a press nor the room to store one, so laundry/ironing is it.
    5. We’re providing the start-up capital for any crazy idea for a business, service, or product you can dream up, giving you total creative control while we finance your dream for five years, after which it must fail or succeed on its own merit!  What will it be?
      See item 2.

    Friday 5 - Tex

    1. Whether you’ve ever been there or not, what are your thoughts on Texas?
Never been there myself but wouldn't mind visiting.  I love cowboy boots (Ropers) and riding coats (Dusters).  Oh, and Lammes Texas Chewie Pecan Pralines :^)

    2. Who was the last person you sent a text message to? If you’ve never sent someone a text message, is there some reason?
Last person I texted was my daughter - telling her where in the mall to meet us when she finished work.  When we first got text messaging, I thought it was lame.  Why text when you could just talk.  But now, I love texting.  It allows time to think of a good response instead of replying immediately like when you're speaking to someone.  And since I have not only text, but picture too, it's an easy way to capture wallpapers.  Did you know that your phone has an email address?  So you can simply email a picture from the web to your phone.  Save the picture as a download and use it as a wallpaper.

    3. Who’s usually the first person you go to when you have a tech-related problem, especially for computers?
You would think that, working in IT, it'd be the tech support people, right?  But it's hard to get them to share information - almost as though it'll jeopardize their job.  If it's work related, I go to them because they HAVE to help me.  If it's non-work related, I go to the web techies who are always excited to speak techie.  Next choice would be to post for help to a forum that I'm a member of.  It's not a computer forum, but there is a Geek section where we all share knowledge.

    4. What was the best textbook you were ever assigned?
Best?  I don't recall liking any textbook I was assigned.

    5. What are your thoughts on techno music?
Only time I listen to techno music is when I'm watching Para Para

    Have a nice weekend!

    Friday 5 on Tuesday :^P
    1. What’s something that used to be good but now is lame?
In general: Gas prices.  Our government.  Our courts.  TV shows.  Movies.  Traffic.  Crime.

    2. What’s something that used to be lame but now is good?
Everybody Loves Raymond.  Frank just cracks me up.  Raymond is such an idiot.  My wife says Debra is a bitch, but having a husband like Raymond, I side with Debra.   I used to hate the show because of Raymond's character - he makes husbands look bad.  But then I started relating to the show.  No, I'm not a Raymond.  But my brother-in-law (my wife's sister's husband) is.  And my in-laws?  Frank and Marie.
At family get-togethers, my daughter and I sit back and watch the live show of Everybody Loves Raymond.
    3. What’s something you used to feel strongly about, but are now ambivalent about?
The Cold War.  I used to pray every night that the USSR didn't nuke us.  Then at the end of the cold war, I could rest easily knowing that the USSR is no more a threat.
Does the threat of N. Korea and their nukes bother me?  Not anymore.  I've come to terms with God and when my time comes, my time comes.  I just don't want my kids lives to be cut short.
    4. What’s something you used to feel ambivalent about, but now have strong feelings about?
Our local government.  That's what I get for listening to Rick Hamada on the drive in to work and Mike Buck on the way home.  I'm not saying everyone in our local government are flakes - just the majority.  Starting from most of the politicians all the way down to the guys who ride around all day in the crew cab trucks that don't seem to go any faster than 15 miles per hour.
And what bugs me the most are the voters who don't do their homework and just keep voting in the same losers that don't do jack in the first place!  Arrggh!
    5. What’s something you used to dislike but now love?
Chinese parsley.  NOT!  I can't stand the stuff.  I tried.  Honestly, I tried to like it, but... Yuk!  Even the smallest stem in my fried noodles will make me stop eating it.
But back to the question.  I used to dislike programming.  As I started out in my career as a computer programmer, I used to hate it.  I couldn't wait to pay my dues and move up to an analyst position.  But that was only because of my approach.  I used to program by trial and error and would get frustrated when the desired results weren't achieved.  Then I changed my approach and started to dwell into the logic and crack the code, if you will.  Then it became fun.  My attitude was that it was like a logic puzzle that needed to be solved.  And even when something worked, I had to dig in to figure out how it worked.  Much like taking apart a toy to figure out what makes it run.  I love that stuff.
So now that I've come to enjoy programming, I find myself doing less and less of it and more analysis type work.  Even though we have Analyst to do that kind of work, it trickles down to us programmers - and I hate it.  JUST GIVE ME CODE AND I'M A HAPPY CODE-MONKEY.

    1. When money’s a bit tight, how do you cut costs in keeping yourself fed?
Bring home lunch.  A sandwich and a soda is all I need for lunch.  I could stand to lose about 10 - 15 lbs. anyway so a sandwich for lunch wouldn't be such a bad thing.  Sure beats the rice and macaroni salad plate lunch.  Hey, it's only a mini plate - if that's any consolation.
    2. When money’s a bit tight, how do you cut costs in keeping yourself entertained?
Stay at home, watch TV or DVDs.  One thing about having a poor memory, I can watch my movies over and over again and still enjoy them.  What else, mess around on the computer.  Mess around the other kine works too.
    3. When money’s a bit tight, how do you cut costs in other areas of your life?
Stay home and not go to the mall.  Or Costco.  Or Sam's Club.  Or Wal-Mart.  Or CompUSA.  Or Best Buy.  Or Office Depot.  Or Amazon.  Or Ebay.  Or Think geek.  You get the idea.

    4. When money’s a bit tight, what do you do to keep your spirits up?
Wow, that's a tuff one.  To keep my spirits up, I go shopping.  When money's a bit tight, I keep from shopping.  So I guess when money's a bit tight, I'm depressed.
    5. When money’s a bit tight, what are some things you refuse to sacrifice?
Driving my gas guzzling SUV.  My wife's car eats less gas and has a smoother ride, but it's hard to see beyond all the other SUV's.  So I stick with my SUV.

To all my readers (yes, both of you), I'm going to start a new journal soon with an easier name.  El-three-three-seven-underscore-nine-three-three-kay is a little too difficult to remember so I came up with a new name.  But I'm not going to tell you just yet.  Not until I at least put up one entry.  But I'll give you a hint: the name has something to do with my ethnicity.

    1. What’s your routine when you sit down to read a newspaper?
Before reading the newspaper, I always start the coffee first.  Then I put the newspaper in order alphabetically and read from front to back.  Except when I reach the Features section which has the comics.  I skip save that section.  When I get to the Classifieds section, I do the Jumbles puzzle.  Then I go back to the Features section and take it  to the "library" (IYKWIM) to read.  I always read the comics - left side, top to bottom, then right side, bottom up.  Then later in the evening, I do the Sudoku puzzle.
On Sundays, after reading the newspaper front to back (usually skipping the Auto and Real Estate sections) and after finishing the Jumbles and am done with the comics (in the "library"), I put the supplements or inserts in order to read.  I skip the TV Guide, skim through the Dining Out, and do the word/phrase puzzle in the USA Weekend section.  Then I put the rest in order saving the favorites for last.  I remove the coupons, ToyRus, Sports Authority, K-Mart junk.  Then check out the Longs ad, followed by the Don Quiote ad, Sears, Office Max, Office Depot, Circuit City, Best Buy, and CompUSA for last.
      Aren't you glad you asked...
Oh yeah, I noticed a lot of guys always go for the Sports section first.  The Sports section is the one section that I whip through the fastest.  It's the Business section that I spend a lot of time on - especially on Tuesdays when the feature is Technology.
Oh, I also enjoy reading the Letters to the Editor.
    2. When you fire up your web-browser on a typical day, what’s your browsing routine?
Sign on to Yahoo and check/clean out my mail box.  Check out how the stock market is doing and my portfolio.  Head to my favorite on-line kite shop Gone WIth The Wind Kites and check out the forum.  Check out my ebay bids I'm watching.  Go to the Honolulu Advertiser site and check out the headlines and blogs.
    3. It’s time to tidy up your living space!  In what order do you normally tackle things?
No particular order.  So sometimes I'll start to tidy up one place, then as I move stuff around, start tidying up another place, never finishing up the first place I was working on.  Usually, I just end up moving junk around from here to there.  Sometimes, it ends up back where it started.
That's why I love to shop - keeps me out of the house and away from having to tidy up.
    4. Holy cow!  It’s time to start thinking about Christmas shopping!  How do approach this annual, sometimes-daunting task?
I don't start thinking about Christmas shopping until December.  Sometimes November.  During the year, I sometimes see things that I think "This would make a great Christmast present", but then I don't write it down and forget about it.
Hey!  Good excuse to get an iPhone - so I can jot down reminders.
btw, why do most people approach Christmas shopping so negatively?  I think it's fun, kind of challanging, to find the right gift.  Only negative side is the bill that's going to arrive in Janurary.
    5. What’s your method for paying bills?
I keep two stacks.  One for the first of the month and the other one for the 15ih of the month.  It's the American Express that screws me up because it's always due a week or so after it arrives so I have to pay that one in between the 2 pay dates.  I also balance my checkbook at least monthly - to the penny.  I hate finance charges for late payments or for going under a minimum balance.
I once heard that men like to take care of the finances because it makes them feel like they're the providers for the family.
I do it because my wife tasked me with it soon after we were married.

    Happy Easter, everyone!

Happy Birthday to our baby girl!
Actually, her birthday was yesterday (4/4).

Our baby girl is now officially an adult.  She can get her drivers license anytime she wants.  She is also now responsible for all of her actions - in the eyes of the law, that is.

    Oh how time flys...

    Friday 5 on |V|on|)ay
    1. What specific advice would you give to someone moving into your neighborhood?
When you're coming up the main street to our street, and you see The Bus at the stop sign waiting to turn on to the main street, stop short (where the other bus stop sign is) and flash your headlights to let the bus go.  When you see the bus make the left turn on to the main street, you'll see why it's a good idea to stop short (the bus cuts the turn sharp and if you're car is in the way, it'll get squished).
    2. What specific advice would you give to someone beginning a job at your workplace (or attending school where you study, or, if you’re neither a student nor employed, doing whatever it is you do with your days)?
Beware of this one lady in Finance.  She's just evil.
    3. What specific advice would you give to someone who wants to begin an online journal or blog?
Go for it.  Keep it active - even if it means only posting your Friday5 replies once-a-week.
    4. What specific advice would you give to someone who wants to take up a hobby you’re really into?
Read up and research it.  Taking up a new hobby if fun because there's so much room to grow.  The beginning part is hard only if you think it is.  Instead, think of it as a challange.  Once you've overcome the noobie part, then it really begins to be fun.  Research it on the web.  Read up about it in the local Borders library.  Be passionate about it.  And when you're reach a plateau where you think you can't improve any more, get a coach or network with others in the hobby.  You'll see yourself gowing once again.  Join groups or clubs if you have to, but keep expanding the intrest in your hobby.
    5. What specific advice would you give to someone who wants to marry your closest, unmarried friend?
I'd tell that person to go for it.  If it's a closest friend to me, then it must be a nice person - otherwise, I wouldn't consider that person a close field.  I'd also tell the person that they'd better be good to my closest friend because I care about my friends.

    How’s your car running?
My car is running fine (knock on wood).  Brakes are starting to squeak and tires are getting worn down, but I should be good until the end of this year.  Rear tail gate and bumper a little sore after getting rear-ended in December.  But overall, my car is running well.

    How’s your blood pressure?
Borderline prehypertension.  I keep saying that in about a year and a half, I'll reach a major milestone in my life.  At that time, I'll start taking better care of my body.  Until then, I'll keep enjoying the fried chicken skin, macaroni salad, and gravy.

    How’s work (or school)?
A little stressful at work.  My plate is full with this one big project, but it doesn't advance because of all these other little problems popping up daily.  It's like my plate has a huge slab of steak on it, but it's covered up with a bunch of little side dishes, so I can never seem to get to the meat of it.  Get it?  Slab of steak... meat...  In other words, MY PLATE IS FULL!!!!!

    How’s 2007 so far?
For me and my loved ones, 2007 has been good to us so far (more knocking on wood).  Can't say that for the rest of things.  Tainted pet food, pedestrian accidents, driving fatalities, severe storms, middle east conflict, etc.  Whew!  The first quarter of this year isn't even over yet.  Take it easy out there people, take it easy...

    How’s your hair?
My hair?  Recently, people have been commenting on my hair - about how gray it's getting.  But I tell them that it's not getting gray.  It's my hi-lites.  Silver hi-lites.  It's supposed to look like that.  --  I think they believe me.

That's it for now.  C  ya!

    1. When you were a student, would you have been more likely to turn your test in first or last?
Last.  Even if I finish it first, I'll wait so I'm not the first to hand it in.
    2. Question 1 on a test can be narrowed down to either A or B (you’re sure it’s one or the other). Question 12 on the test can be narrowed down to the same two answers. You know one is A and the other is B. Do you go for the all-or-nothing guess (choosing A for one and B for the other) or do you play it safe and take one correct (choosing A for both questions)?
      All-or-nothing.
    3. Are you more of a multiple-choicer, a true-falser, a fill-in-the-blanker, or a free-responder?
I like multiple-choice, except when there's the All of the Above and/or None of the Above selections.
    4. What are your thoughts on standardized college aptitude tests such as the SAT?
They're okay, although a person shouldn't be judged solely on the test results.  Grade history should be factored in too.
    5. In the past week, in what ways have you been tested?
In the true sense of the word, I wasn't tested at all.  I do testing of software on a regular basis as a part of my job, but I don't really consider it as me being tested.  It's just a task that I have to do.  My patience is always being tested, but whose isn't.  It's all a matter of attitude, right?

What's up this weekend?  Pro Bowl.  Maybe I'll watch it.  Depends if I have enough space on the DVR to record the game.  Between the yet-to-be-watched episodes of American Idol, Ugly Betty, and House, I'm running out of room.  Nah, maybe I won't watch the Pro Bowl.

    Have a good weekend, everyone!

    Friday V

What’s your favorite part (to eat) of a chicken?
    Cutlets - because they're boneless.

What’s your favorite cut of beef?
Filet Mignon - quality over quantity.

What’s your favorite cut of pork?
Back ribs - as in baby back ribs.

What’s your favorite part of a Snickers bar?
    The caramel and nougat.

What’s your favorite part of a pizza?
The part with the most tomato sauce.  Pizza isn't pizza unless it contains tomato sauce.

    Go Colts!

    What’s your favorite flower?
Pikake.  I'd say Maile, but it's not a flower.

    What’s your favorite cooking herb?
Garlic.  What can I say, I'm Korean!

If you were struck by the sudden need to go for a walk in the woods, where would you go?
Wa'ahila Ridge park.  It's someplace I'm familiar with, it's calming and peaceful and serene.

What kind of tree would you be?
Bamboo, without a doubt.  My Aikido sensei explained that the concept of Aikido is to let things "pass though" like a bamboo tree.  It bends with the wind, allows the wind to pass through, then rises up once again after the wind has passed.  In life, you need to let things pass though you so you can rise once again - and remain true to yourself.

When was the last time someone gave you flowers?
    You mean the last time I got lei'd?  I don't remember :^(

    Bonus:
A coworker sent me this joke today.  I thought I'd share.

    THE MIRACLE OF TOILET PAPER
Fresh from my shower, I stand in front of the mirror complaining to my husband that my breasts are too small.
Instead of characteristically telling me it's not so, he uncharacteristically comes up with a suggestion.
"If you want your breasts to grow, then every day take a piece of toilet paper and rub it between them for a few seconds."
Willing to try anything, I fetch a piece of toilet paper and stand in front of the mirror, rubbing it between my breasts.
"How long will this take?" I asked.
"They will grow larger over a period of years," my husband replies.
I stopped. "Do you really think rubbing a piece of toilet paper between my breasts every day will make my breasts larger over the years?"
Without missing a beat he says, "Worked for your butt, didn't it?"

He's still alive and with a great deal of therapy he may even walk again, although he will probably continue to take his meals through a straw.
    Stupid, stupid man.

Okay, we're in Vegas during a cold snap.  It's about 10:00 in the morning and the skies are overcast.  Local weather reports say possibility of snow.  So as I'm standing in line at Main Street hotel and casino, the 2 Hawaii guys in front are dressed in a baseball cap, jacket, and shorts.  SHORTS! It's almost below freezing outside and these guys are wearing shorts!  And if you've ever rented a car from US Car Rental at Main Street, you know that they don't drive the car up to the front door for you.  You have to walk outside, cross Main street, then find your car in the parking lot.  And even then, when you get into the car, it doesn't heat up instantaneously.  It takes a good 3-4 minutes to heat up.

So, what drives these fools to wear shorts in Las Vegas when the temperatures are on the brink of freezing:
o Being from Hawaii, they only own short pants?
o They forgot to unpack and just took whatever was in the suitcase from last summer's LV trip?
o It's macho to walk around freezing temperatures in shorts?
o Li hing mui between the legs feels good!?
o Growing up, they lacked attention from their parents, so now seek it in other ways?
o They just have no common sense?

    I just don't get it...

My wife and I celebrated her birthday over in Vegas. We timed it just right for the cold spell. Flew in on Thursday night to a cold 35°. Took a stroll over from the California hotel to Freemont to buy some water from the ABC store and get a taste of the cold. Nice!

Friday morning after breakfast, we got our rent-a-car and headed out. It was somewhat overcast that day and we thought it might even snow! Wishful thinking - although the weather report said possible snow on Saturday. So we head out to Trader Joe's on Decatur to buy some water. Everyone at home wanted us to bring back the TJ cheese popcorn so my wife thought we'd mail some home this time. But first we needed a box. So we head on over the the indoor swap meet. Customs must've done a sweep because all the designer knock-offs were gone. Found outselves a nice box.
Head back to TJ's - box in tow - and found we could fit 6 bags of the cheese popcorn in there. Paid for the popcorn and TJ's let us use their tape to seal the box. Gotta love those Trader Joe's folks - so accommodating. Headed to the post office and sent the box home. Cost more to mail the box than it did for the 6 bags of popcorn!
Then we headed down the street to a mall that we usually stop at. My wife hits the JoAnn's and TJ Maxx stores, I hit the Shelper's western wear store.
While waiting outside in the cold for the wife, I see little flurrys floating around me. Could it be? Snow? Yes it is! It melts as soon as it touches something, but it's snow! First time in my life that I actually saw snow falling (only second time in my life that I actually saw snow!). My wife comes out and like crazy tourist, we're (okay, I'm) taking pictures.
Then we decide to hunt for the Burlington Coat factory store. He head up Sahara and the next block up is sorta misty. We drive further and snow starts bouncing off the windsheild. Just so happens that the Burlington Coat factory is right there too. Pull into the parking lot and take some more pictures - and some video too. I'll see if I can post them.
Then after a few minutes, it's gone. Blown past on it's way to The Strip. But it was a first for me. Stopped by the downtown outlet mall before heading back home (to the hotel). Must've been around 28°. That hot Starbucks coffee sure felt good in my hands.

Saturday, the weather was clear so we trucked on down to Primm. I always freak out driving 70 mph just so the 18 wheelers don't ride my ass. After a few hours shopping in Primm, we head back to LV - stopping at Belz for more shopping. btw, these shopping centers have new names but we still refer to them by their original names. My wife sees a nice gold Coach wallet that she thinks our younger daughter might like. She takes a picture with her camera phone and sends it to our daughter - gotta love technology. But it doesn't go through - damn technology! So she passes on buying it. Later that evening, my wife sent me the picture of the wallet to my phone and I forward it to my daughter. Oooh, she like! "Yeah mom, that wallet is nice!" Okay, later on we'll go back for it. Drove home along The Strip. Nothing like killing a hour driving down The Strip on a Saturday night.

Sunday we sleep in and start the day around noon. We stop by the MGM to eat a pretzel. I don't know what the name of the place is but the pretzel are damn good! Play a little in the casino there, made a few bucks, then head on back out. We stop by the South Coast hotel - which is now named South Point - and check it out. Nice cozy place where the locals play (LV locals, not Hawaii locals). Made a few bucks over there. Then we went back to the downtown outlet mall and closed the place.

Monday, the last day of vacation. Time to catch up and do all the things we planned, but never got around to. We head out to Henderson and visit the Trader Joe's over there to buy 2 grocery bags of omiyage. Then we head back on Sunset and stop by the fence at McCarren airport. There is a little parking lot there that you can park at, tune your radio to a certain station, and listen to the control tower talk with the airplanes as they land and take off. Okay, kind of a nerdy thing to do, but I enjoy it.
We head back to Belz to buy the gold wallet for my daughter. Too late. It's gone. Bummer.
We stop by In-n-Out burger to get our fix. That place is getting too popular. At 3:00 in the afternoon - it's packed! But I got my animal style burger so I was happy.
Then we head to Meadows Mall. Spend a few hours there and head back to the hotel. But first, one final stop at the downtown outlet mall. Pop into the Coach store and there is the gold wallet my daughter wanted. Oh happy day! There were 2 left. I told my wife to buy them both, but cooler heads prevailed and we just bought the one. Filled the car with gas and headed back to the hotel.
    * Is it just me or is there anyone else kinda embarassed walking through the casino carrying a shitload of packages back to the hotel room?

So it's time to pack. Bag pick up is at 4:30 am and we meet in the Ohana room at 5:00 am. As we always do, we stayed up all night - stretching what money we have left to pull us through the night. Actually, my wife and I killed a good 3 hours on the Keno machines. We were playing side by side and all the numbers that I chose, came up on my wife machine and vice versa, so we were play opposites. And it was working. We were having a blast playing opposite numbers. Grew our $20 to over $100 when we finally cashed out. Then it was time to secure our luggage and eat one last meal before returning home.

    Slept all the way home.

But it was a fun trip - nice and cold. I never want to come home, but I always remember what my wife once told me once when I didn't want to leave - "It's okay, we'll be back."

    And that we will.

    Fr1D4y |=ive - 3ndings

What film did you think had the most annoying, maddening, preposterous, disappointing, or idiotic ending?
Hmmm, tough one since I never go to the movies.  If DVDs count, then I'd say Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.  The kung-fu was good as well as the costumes.  But the plot - it's a love story.  A kung-fu chick-flick, if you will.  Disappointing.

What is the most recent example in your life of something coming to an unexpected (or unwelcome) end and then turning into an even better beginning?
    :o)

How do you feel about your rear end? (alternate question for those who think this is just far too inappropriate: How do you usually spend your sitting-around-on-your-rear-end days?)
I'm happy with it.  It's not what it used to be - butt (ha, ha) that's expected as everyone ages.  I do however have a problem with men's pants design.  What's with the "relaxed fit" style?  Not only does it not accentuate the assets, it actually makes it look flat!  Make mine low-rise, slim-fit, bun-hugging please.

Some people read the endings of books before they invest time, energy, and emotion into the rest of them. What are your thoughts about this practice?
Whatever rocks their boat.  I personally love the anticipation of a good ending.  I'm not the reader type so this doesn't affect me.  But to parallel the thought, if I record a sports event to watch it later, I'll go to extreme steps to avoid the final score until I view the game - beginning to end.  And I'll build up the anticipation by getting all the chores out of the way first until I'm settled and ready to watch it.  Of course, shit happens and there's interruptions during the course of the game, but that's what the pause button is for, right?

How would you like to end each day, and how do you actually end each day?
I'd like to end my day relaxed, contented, maybe glowing from some late night antics (IYKWIM).  I actually end my day - usually - tired, jockeying for space with our 2 dogs sleeping on the bed, and a good-night kiss (from my wife, not the dogs).

     Happy Friday!
